Let's Get Organized!

Nothing like the threat of a casino on the bluffs to activate people! Have you seen all the comments? People have some great ideas. We need to get organized so we can accomplish some of our goals. Here are some suggestions:
  1. Several people suggested that we should meet and get organized. I'll be glad to call a meeting. Could someone volunteer their home or some other place? If so, send me an email.
  2. Go to the next meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, October 24 at 6 pm. If you want to speak, you have to submit a request in writing no later than Wednesday. Your request merely has to state that you request time on the Agenda. When you speak, it doesn't have to be long or elaborate. Just ask them to please involve the citizens in the decision to have a casino.
  3. One of the commenters talked about the Community Alliance, which was designated as the "voice of the community" at a Town Hall meeting. They meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month (October 25) at 3 pm at the Convention Center. Let's go check it out.

By the way, today I went to the meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. It was supposed to be solely for the purpose of passing the docket, so they could pay bills. And it was. However, they also set a date for a "Working Meeting" prior to the regular meeting on Tuesday. It is tentatively scheduled for Monday October 23 at 4 pm.

All meetings have to be open to the public, with some exceptions. I'm going to try to attend this meeting. I think there may be some fireworks, according to one of the Aldermen. Come, if you can. However, be sure to check with the Mayor's office (601.445.7555) to see if the day or time has been changed.

Looks like next week will be busy! Have a Happy Balloon Fest! I'm expecting visitors and probably won't post anything until next week.

anon has some ideas, but seems defeated. I agree with him that Gray and Mathis seem to be the only ones with spunk. I hope they keep up the good work, they may even opt for realy open meetings. Those of us who voted for West are dissapointed. We thought he would bring changn and move us forward instead of going backword

If you want to know more about Mayor Phillip West, ask the people in the areas he has represented over the last several years, "What has he ever done in District 4 or the house district he represented?" They will tell you, "NOTHING." If you want really know what he has done, look under any table. He has done a lot of deals there.

The man was kicked out of Alcorn as a student for cheating. He's been a cheater (even on his wife) all of his life. He's is not the sharpest pencil in the stack. Better put..., he's not even in the stack.

Natchez would do Mississippi and the entire USA a grand favor in 2009 if they sent him to the house.

Let's have a "March on City Hall" soon. A mass rally against the things that are going on is needed immediately. Someone needs to obtain a peaceful demonstration permit from the Police Department and get the word out about the "March on City Hall" soon.

My suggestion is that we have a candle light vigil at the next evening board meeting.

Protest are powerful when there is a great number of people participating.

I love the idea of a peaceful candlelight vigil. Let's do it! Spread the word, and bring a couple extra candles for those who forget.

Please pass the word. I will purchase a dozen and have them at the steps of 1st Presbyterian around 5:30. This will send a message that we are serious about the actions of the mayor and board. EVERYONE SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THIS.

DON'T FORGET THAT PHILLIP WEST TURNED HIS BACK ON HIS COLLEAGUES IN THE LEGISLATURE WHEN HE SUPPORTED THE ELDER PICKERING FOR THE FEDERAL JUDGESHIP.

IF HE DOES THIS TO HIS OWN RACE OF PEOPLE, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO DO FOR OTHER RACES?

OH, I FORGET...., HE'S AN UNCLE TOM TYPE NEGRO. WE (THE WHITES) IN NATCHEZ MAY ACTUALLY BENEFIT.

REGARDLESS, I DON'T TRUST THE MAN. HE APPEARS TO HAVE THE SMALL MAN SYNDRONE. IT'S GOT TO BE HIS WAY, HIS LEADERSHIP, OR NOT AT ALL.

WAKE UP NATCHEZ..., HE'S LEADING US TO HELL ON A NARROW ROAD.

Were you all aware that the State College Board pulled a million dollars from the Alcorn State University project for a Performing Arts Center in Natchez. The reason: The college board had set aside $1.6 million for the project and the city and county were supposed to secure the match. The match never materialized. The College Board voted on Wednesday to put $1 million into a center on the Lorman campus.
