Wouldn't it be something?

Wouldn't it be something if the Mississippi Gaming Commission, meeting today, approves an application for the Lane Co. to place a casino in Natchez. That could very well mean that the new h(m)otel on Canal Street could have been built without $2,000,000 (that's MILLION) of our money going out of the window.

The final approval for the new h(m)otel came after the negotiations for the new casino had begun and the City could have insisted that the casino developers include a Canal St. Hotel in their plans. RIGHT? Then we'd all be $2,000,000 (that's MILLION) better off.

But NO. They just had to do it their way.

Poof! Someone please clarify for me, where did that 2,000,000.00 go?

The City issued $2,000,000 in bonds to partially finance the h(m)otel. Even worse, for the life of the bonds the (hamburger1&2) taxes collected at the h(m)otel will go to repayment of the bonds NOT to the CVB.

By the way the City later authorized $3,000,000, but I haven't taken the time to check out the final amount issued.

Well I hope that did it. I've had to delete 3 or 4 posts to get the link completed.
Sorry

The issuing of the bonds were done with the insistance of the former city attorney, Walter Brown. He is now the attorney for the hotel group. Needless to say, he cut the deal.

Is this not an ethics violation? Oh, I forgot...., Walter Brown is the chairman of the State Ethics Commission.

Whew!!! I see why so much corruption goes untouched here in Natchez.

What do y'all think?

I think you may have discovered the SOURCE of many strange, unusual, and remarkable happenings.

It is refreshing to know that I am not the only one who has been thinking that this guy (Walter Brown) was behind a lot of secretive, unethical dealings here in Natchez.

I thought the city officials had to wait at least a year before they could do business with the city or on behalf of someone trying to do business with the city.

Does anyone know?

Re: 2:38
Doesn't matter...if the law or ethics are a problem our esteemed leaders will pass a new ordinance or law or something to make it okay. Or they will say it was an emergeny situation and they had to act quickly so as not to lose this fabulous opportunity for the city of Natchez and its citizens.
All of this for jobs, huh? Looking forward to seeing that.

Jobs? Have you seen a job? I haven't seen a job.

Now Walter Brown, he's gotten himself some great jobs since he left the employ of the city.
